Kestel From Ancient Civilizations to Today
Kestel adı, Latincede 'küçük kale, hisar' anlamına gelen 'Castellum' kelimesinden türemiştir. Doğu Roma (Bizans) döneminde kentin doğu sınırını koruyan stratejik bir sınır kalesiydi.
1306 yılında Koyunhisar Zaferi'nin ardından Osmanlı topraklarına katılan ilk kalelerden biridir.
