Mythological Monk Mountain Olympos Mysios and the History of the Cable Car

Olympos Mysios, which was mentioned as the sacred hill from where the gods watched the Trojan War in Homer's Iliad in ancient times, was named Monk Mountain with its monasteries and secluded dervishes during the Ottoman period, and was registered as Uludağ in 1925 with the modern Republic of Turkey. Uludag, the highest point of the Marmara Region with its 2,543-meter peak, was declared one of Turkey's first national parks in 1961.

Bursa Cable Car line carries the title of Türkiye's first cable car. The first nostalgic line, built by the Swiss company Von Roll in 1963, was modernized with Italian Leitner Ropeways technology in 2014 and equipped with panoramic cabins for 8 people. Today, it is one of the longest uninterrupted single-cable ropeway systems in the world, with a total length of 9 kilometers and 144 cabins.

Cable Car Ride: Stations and Panoramic Views

The sky journey, which starts from Teferrüç station (altitude 395 m) in the center of Bursa, is completed in approximately 25 minutes by gliding over pine and oak forests:

• Teferrüç Station (395 m): It is the starting terminal with automated ticket booths, indoor parking, cafes and souvenir shops.
• Kadıyayla Station (1,230 m): It is an intermediate transfer point and has a breathtaking panorama opening to the deep crevices of the Bursa plain and valleys.
• Sarıalan Station (1,635 m): It is popular with its picnic, camping areas, bungalow houses, hiking routes and meat barbecue restaurants in the summer months.
• Kurbağa Kaya / Hotels Area (1,810 m): Provides direct access to the ski resort, chair lifts, luxury hotels and snowboard slopes in the winter season.

Uludağ is not only a winter tourism center, but also a protected global ecosystem with its rich biodiversity. It is home to more than 30 endemic plant species, bearded vultures, wolves, bears and deer. During the summer months, glacial lakes such as Aynalıgöl, Karagöl and Kilimli Lake, located on plateaus above 2,000 meters, are unique routes for mountaineering and trekking enthusiasts. The observation terrace Bakacak Hill promises a cliffside view that reveals the Bursa Plain underfoot.

How to Get There and Practical Transportation Information

Transportation from Bursa center to Teleferik Teferrüç Station is very practical:

• By Public Transportation: From Heykel or Şehreküstü, you can take public buses 15-A, 15-B, S-1 or S-2 and get off directly in front of Teferrüç Teleferik Station.
• Ascent to Uludağ by Road: The 34-kilometer mountain road leaving through Çekirge is asphalt and winding. Carrying snow tires and chains is mandatory during winter months; An entrance fee per vehicle is charged at the National Park entrance gate.
• Parking: Multi-storey secure parking is available at Teferrüç station.
